Our Board of Directors has pledged a record-setting $384,805 this year for our year-end campaign and challenges you to help match it. Why should you make a gift this year? Quite simply, our track record is incredible. Your donation to the FSH Society is one of the most powerful investments you will ever make to advance medical research.
The FSH Society, now marking its 24th year, has transformed the world for the 870,000 people living with facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD). Our work, fueled by your donations and powered by our staff, Board of Directors, research grant awardees, and hundreds of volunteers, has cracked the genetic code of FSHD. The Society, with all of us working together, is leading the way toward treatments and a cure.
Research initiated by the FSH Society is unraveling one of the most complex disease-causing genetic mechanisms known to science. People diagnosed with FSHD, who once had nowhere to turn, are now a phone call or mouse click away from the FSH Society’s worldwide network of experts and support communities. We’re screening drugs, working on gene therapies, and investing in projects to prepare the way for clinical trials.
This ground-breaking work has been done with minuscule funding. Over its 24-year history, the FSH Society has spent about what one major academic cancer lab spends in a single year. Since its inception, the FSH Society helped establish research labs across the U.S., the Netherlands, France, Italy, and Belgium. Our work has been leveraged into $85 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health.
We have accomplished a huge amount on very little—a truly astonishing return on investment.
The recent success of research in FSHD means we really have so much more to do, and we need your help today to keep us moving forward. We have compelling drug targets. We know the steps we need to take to develop treatments. We just need to increase our funding.
If we receive your gift between now and December 31, 2015, it will be counted toward the year-end match! Thank you for your generosity. Every gift kindles a flame lighting the way toward a better future for all individuals living with FSHD.
