Last month, FSH Society Ambassadors Carden and Spencer Wyckoff hiked through the Georgia portion of the Appalachian Trail to raise awareness and funds to cure FSHD. You can now watch their experience on WSB-TV Atlanta!
In total, 25 family members, friends and supporters joined the duo on the 82-mile hike.
Although the trek was long, for Spencer, the opportunity to create memories with his sister far outweighed the struggles that come with such an adventure. “Everyone is capable of a great adventure,” he said. “This trip was all about sharing a memory of a place she would otherwise never be able to see. Some of the overlooks on the trail were absolutely gorgeous.”
“Just because you have a disability or just because you have a roadblock standing in your way doesn’t mean you just curl up in a ball and go to sleep,” added Carden. “It is a challenge every day, but I’m very much a believer of if you put good in you get good out… you have to stay positive even though you feel like your body is crumbling away.”
This is not the first time Spencer and Carden have raised awareness for FSHD. Spencer also appeared on the Atlanta trials of American Ninja Warrior, and completed a Spartan Race carrying Carden earlier this year.
This will not be the last trip for the duo either. Be sure to follow along with Carden and Spencer on their website, piggybackadventures.com.
