Our 2018 Ghostly Gala, held on October 21 at Los Angeles’ fabled Cicada Club, raised awareness and funds for FSH muscular dystrophy. This year’s theme was comedy, laughing for a cure. Wendy Liebman presided as the mistress of ceremonies. She has appeared on Letterman, Leno, Kimmel, Fallon, HBO, and America’s Got Talent. She currently produces Locally Grown Comedy at Vitello’s in Studio City on the last Tuesday of every month. Check out her special, “Wendy Liebman: Taller on TV.”
Our honoree this year was Amy Bekier, a member of the Board of Directors, a tireless advocate and fundraiser for the Society. Here is her stirring acceptance speech:
The evening presentations began with Dennis Regan, who has been performing since 1987. He has appeared dozens of times on Letterman, Leno, Showtime, and Comedy Central and headlined most of the major comedy clubs in every state except Arkansas. He currently performs across the country and internationally on cruise ships, at colleges, and in Vegas and Atlantic City.
The evening closed with DJ Demers, an award-winning stand-up comedian who has appeared on Conan, and America’s Got Talent, and was a featured performer at the prestigious Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. His debut stand-up album, [Indistinct Chatter], was released in 2017 and was nominated by the Juno Awards for Comedy Album of the Year.
