Eye dryness during the night is a chronic complaint for those who can’t close their eyelids fully, as is often the case for people with FSH muscular dystrophy. One solution from the grocery store aisle is to use Glad Press & Seal as a self-adhesive mask that holds eye ointment and moisture in place. For the more style-conscious, here’s another option: the Nite Hood, which is basically like a nightcap but that pulls down to cover your eyes. Designed for insomniacs as a more comfortable alternative to sleep masks, a Nite Hood could be just the solution you’ve been looking for! Plus it’s designed, knit, and sewn in Canada. What’s not to love?
Posting on Facebook, Scott Whitehurst says “Nite Hood works beautifully for me. If I didn’t wear something, my eyes would be red, dry, and burning to the point where I couldn’t keep them open. I tried eye masks, but they were uncomfortable, especially the straps that would cut into my ears. Now I wear a Nite Hood, and it is the best thing ever. Made out of soft bamboo fabric, it is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It is also comfortable with a CPAP or BiPAP mask. I can’t say enough good things about the Nite Hood and even bought another to wear outside as a winter hat. I love the way it can cover my ears to keep them warm if I need it.”

I also really like the Nite Hood. It’s comfy and doesn’t feel restrictive on the head. However, I do think that my eyes stay open a little bit under the hood, so I would use it in combination with gel. Still, it definitely helps, and it’s easy to take off and put on again if you need to use the bathroom in the middle of the night.
