One of the questions we are often asked is how will pregnancy and child-bearing affect an individual with FSHD? And because FSHD is passed on from generation to generation, what are the options for parents who want to start a family?
We are fortunate to have two experts on this topic, Sanne Vincenten, MD, and Nicol Voermans, MD PhD, of Radboud University Medical Center in the Netherlands, address these issues. They recently published an article on FSHD genetics and reproductive counseling, together with a group of Dutch neurologists and clinical geneticists. Drs. Vincenten and Voermans will discuss FSHD inheritance, prenatal diagnostics and preimplantation diagnostic options.
Whether of not you or someone you know are planning to start a family any time soon, these are important topics for every FSHD family to understand.
