Ending FSHD will take all of us and the Walk & Roll to Cure FSHD makes it easy for everyone to team up - friends, loved ones, and co-workers - to change the world for all those affected.
“Efforts like the Walk & Roll put fuel in the tank. Funding the programs that move us closer to treatments and a cure. And it is something anyone and everyone can be a part of,” Beth Johnston, Chief Community Engagement Officer.
Together, through donations large and small, we have raised nearly $2 million for research and patient support. While Walk & Roll to Cure FSHD is first and foremost a fundraiser to support the mission of the FHD Society, it is also about so much more.
“It was empowering to raise awareness and provide research funding. Raising the money with the help of my team of caregivers and friends was so meaningful. Their support meant the world to me,” Claire Szabo Cassella, Red Scooter Riders team, Arizona Walk & Roll.
Participating in a Walk & Roll forges powerful connections, strengthening FSHD families and the community. And when you participate on a team, that impact is even greater.
- Teams harness the human desire to be part of something.
- Teams provide an opportunity for friendly competition and fun!
- Being on a team gives new participants greater confidence to fundraise.
- When Walk & Rollers are on a team, they tend to participate more consistently year over year.
- The average amount raised online through personal fundraising pages is higher for team members than for individuals – on average, more than $400 per team member!
Because Team fundraising is so powerful, we support and celebrate them! On July 21 we held a Team Captain Happy Hour with participants from across North America. We celebrated their past success, shared tips and tricks for even great success in 2022, and had a lot of fun. Want to see what is was all about and super-charge your team? Through fundraising, participants are challenged to tell their story: how FSHD has impacted their family; how the FSHD Society has helped; that there is hope for the future. The Walk & Roll opens the door to that conversation, leaving others more informed and aware about FSHD and its impact.
Thousands of individuals, each raising their voices and raising what they can for the cause, all adds up to more than the sum of its parts. Together we are catalyzing a global movement to connect and empower FSHD families, to speed FSHD drug development for all, and to find a cure.
