Audacious in its ambition and breathtaking in its logical execution, Team FSHD Cycling first captured our attention and our hearts in 2017 when its founder and leader, George Pollock, Jr., decided he would recruit a group of friends to take on “The toughest bicycle race in the world,” the Race Across America. FSHD was not going to stop him, and he was determined to use the event to raise $101,000 for the FSHD Society. (See Team FSHD Cycling eyes epic race in June 2017.)
Team FSHD Cycling’s effort was a resounding success, and what George initially called a “once in a lifetime” quest was repeated in 2019. (See Team FSHD Skyland Trail will compete in the 2019 Race Across America.) Two years later, the Team came back together to compete in the 2021 Race Across the West, finishing 1st in the 50 to 59 age division.
This year, on July 13, 2024, George is riding again, this time in the Triple Bypass in Colorado to raise awareness and funds for the FSHD Society. The Triple Bypass stretches 118 miles from Evergreen to Vail, with 10,800 feet of elevation gain over three mountain passes: Juniper, Loveland, and Vail. As George gives every ounce of his strength and endurance to climb those mountainous roads, you can be the wind at his back by making a donation!
