Anesthesia During Surgery for People with FSHD

Dr. Castro is a board-certified anesthesiologist and director of the orthopedic anesthesia service at Mass General Hospital. Working with Dr. Bassem Elhassan, she has participated in many scapular surgery procedures for patients with FSHD. People with FSHD are warned to be cautious with anesthesia, but there is not a great deal of medical guidance on what this means in practice. Dr. Castro will explain surgical anesthesia and review considerations for individuals with neuromuscular conditions and FSHD in particular.
