With all the floods, hurricanes, fires, and earthquakes in the news lately, we’re reminded of how it’s important to be prepared for emergencies. Having a disability requires extra planning.
Our guest this month is Laura Jull, MEd, who began her career in emergency management as a volunteer, teaching Incident Command concepts to principals and other public school personnel. During her career she has earned many professional certifications including the International Association of Emergency Managers’ Certification in Emergency Management Award, Certification in Healthcare and Safety and the Master Exercise Practitioner designation.
Laura served as the Emergency Preparedness coordinator for Harrison Medical Center in Kitsap County, WA for more than 10 years. This role included networking with community and regional partners such as the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, and multiple Navy bases in the area. She was also an emergency manager for an Ebola assessment facility and specializes in handling radiation decontamination in the work place environment.
She is an Adjunct Faculty member for Louisana State University National Center for Biomedical Research (MCBR) and Training (NCBRT), providing this course to communities throughout the US. She is a member of the NCBR Curriculum Development Team for the tri-annual course recertification . Please note this is a briefsummary of Ms. Jull’s multiple accomplishments.
We are so thankful she is sharing her knowledge with us so that we can have a heightened awareness of the need to have a emergency management plan and to plan specifically for these needs… which of course, will incorporate our own physical limitation needs.
The Wellness Hour is open to everyone in the FSHD community. This is your time to enjoy the company of fellow FSHers, share challenges, talk about what works for you, and feel validated and supported in whatever you may be going through.
We will open the Zoom room a half hour early (4:30 pm ET) so members can enjoy an open forum to discuss whatever is on their minds. Rick Whitehead will be on hand to welcome you in. Wellness Hour has become such a popular destination and we never have enough time for everyone to share what’s on their minds, so we thought we’d try this approach.
Our monthly Zoom meeting on Wellness is held on the second Monday of each month at 5:00-6:00 pm ET. Each month, we’ll have a conversation starter topic, but this is an informal gathering and if the discussion veers off in other directions, that’s OK! We hope you’ll drop by to enjoy the company of some of the wonderful people in our community.
If you are interested, please register by clicking on the link below. You only need to register once for the monthly series. You’ll receive notifications from Zoom with the meeting information.
