All of us consult “Dr. Google” when we have health questions, but how do we know if the information we find is medically sound. When our own health is involved, this is not something to take lightly! This month, we are delighted to have Tina Griffin, a medical librarian at the University of Illinois Chicago, discuss her tips and tricks for finding reliable health information online. Come with your questions as well as your own tried an true methods.
About our guest: Tina Griffin, MLIS, is an Associate Professor and the library liaison to the Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago. Her previous experience in molecular biology included the entire research lifecycle from experimental design through data management to publication. Her research interests include data management education, informatics, and ethics. Her current day-to-day work includes developing curriculum on data management, reference service on chemical and drug resources; offer consults on research data management process improvement on an individual and laboratory level, and provides evidence synthesis support. Working at a public research institution means she also works with individuals and other community organizations to help them learn how to access data and information to advance their health education and research goals.
The Wellness Hour is open to everyone in the FSHD community. This is your time to enjoy the company of fellow FSHers, share challenges, talk about what works for you, and feel validated and supported in whatever you may be going through.
We will open the Zoom room a half hour early (4:30 pm ET) so members can enjoy an open forum to discuss whatever is on their minds. Rick Whitehead will be on hand to welcome you in. Wellness Hour has become such a popular destination and we never have enough time for everyone to share what’s on their minds, so we thought we’d try this approach.
Our monthly Zoom meeting on Wellness is held on the second Monday of each month at 5:00-6:00 pm ET. Each month, we’ll have a conversation starter topic, but this is an informal gathering and if the discussion veers off in other directions, that’s OK! We hope you’ll drop by to enjoy the company of some of the wonderful people in our community.
If you are interested, please register by clicking on the link below. You only need to register once for the monthly series. You’ll receive notifications from Zoom with the meeting information.
